From colleges to companies our doors are always open. Recently one of the top design teachers, Jon Robinson, at Lindenwood University asked if we could host his print design and production students for a round table discussion and tour. The timing could not have been better. We like many companies struggle defining who we are, what makes us different and curious how we can attract the best and brightest to help us serve and grow. The timing could not have been better so we leaped at the offer and what a great night it was.
We hosted 18 junior and senior students with interests from graphic design, interior design, advertising, and promotions. Interestingly when asked if anyone was looking at print services as a career I received a lot of blank stares. It made me wonder if what we do is a great kept secret or a failure to communicate. I don’t have the answer but I do have inspirations. Great design is a gift and helping execute it is one as well. I got all jazzed up sharing the great things we are doing these days from printing giant graphics to finding the right paper choice for a print project to figuring out how to get my graphic to stick best to an office wall that has yet to be built or how to turn a campaign into a point and click order entry system to streamline production and inventory.
After the plant tour Jon said to the students, “When you are embarking on a project don’t wait till the end to talk with the printer but instead get them involved early in the process”. Jon did not know it then but that was a “light bulb” moment for me later that night. Swift is not a point and click and order web based printing company. We actually have a staff that answers the phone, responds quickly to emails, text messages, will sit down eye to eye to review what is desired and supporting casts that love to interject offering suggestions and ideas to push the envelope further to make something unique, special and rewarding in the end. Price is what you pay, value is what you get. Our pledge to you is we strive to make sure the value we give far exceeds the price you pay. If way ever fail to deliver on that pledge in any way let me know and we will work to make things right.
