One of my favorite requests is when a client asks for ideas on how to liven up the walls in their office, business or home. There is something special about taking a blank space and transforming it into something special and meaningful to tell or story or set a mood. In late summer I was contacted by the design firm Atomic Dust about a new project they were working on for Chef and restaurateur Gerard Craft the founder of Niche restaurant for his newest opening, Porano Pasta. How do you take the local warmth and pride of a small town like Porano in Umbria, Italy and help bring the spirit home to St. Louis? One way is by combining photos keepsakes from both locations and then transferring them to the giant walls in the restaurant is how.
You know a project is large when you have to bring in lifts and build scaffolding just for the installation and that is what was done. One wall is 20ft x 20ft and the other wall is 37ft x 20ft with a hanging staircase in front. When working with a graphic this large you have to worry about many things such as image resolution, how the panels will align after handling and stretching during installation and longevity after installation. For these reasons we selected the latest formula of the PhotoTex wall graphic material and imaged on our OCE UV Printer for timeless durability and vibrant color. Together with Atomic Dust’s vision, our print management and Vinyl Images who did the installation it all came together just before Christmas Day. If it were not for a hiccup with the scaffolding company the project would have all been installed in one day instead of two. I encourage you to check out the restaurant and the story at https://www.facebook.com/PoranoPasta/
